Pool maintenance and cleaning in Dubai: a schedule, not a scramble.
A pool is a system, and systems need a rhythm. Most of the problems owners call us about (green water, a pump that trips, a bill that has crept up, a stain that will not brush off) are not accidents. They are a maintenance schedule that was never really kept. We keep it, on a plan, and we catch the small thing while it is still small.
Request a service visitPool maintenance in Dubai is mostly about two invisible things: water chemistry and circulation. At 30-plus degrees for half the year, algae grows fast, chlorine burns off faster, and hard water leaves scale on the tile and inside the plant room. A pool left to a timer and the occasional net turns cloudy, then green, then expensive. So every visit starts with the water (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, stabiliser, salt if the pool runs on a chlorinator) balanced to the pool and the load it actually takes, not to a default that suits a brochure.
The other half of the visit is the part owners never see: the plant room. We check the pump and its running hours against the turnover the pool needs, backwash or clean the filter, look at the skimmer and pump baskets, the flow, the pressure gauge and the electrical protection around wet equipment. A filter past its life or a pump running twice as long as it needs to is the single most common reason a running cost quietly doubles, and it is only found by someone who opens the plant room and reads it.
Then the pool itself: brushing the walls and waterline, vacuuming or checking the robot, emptying baskets, netting the surface, and clearing whatever the last shamal blew in. Around a pool with planting, the two jobs meet: leaf drop, irrigation over-spray and fertiliser run-off all land in the water, which is one reason a team that also looks after the garden keeps a cleaner pool than one that only visits the water.
Because we design and build pools as well as service them, a maintenance visit is also a quiet inspection. We see the coping lifting, the light seal weeping, the waterproofing bubbling behind a tile, the balance tank running low, and we tell you while it is a repair, not a rebuild. You are not paying for that; you are paying for the pool to stay right. But it is the difference between a pool that lasts twenty years and one that needs re-tiling in seven.
Recorded care for the water and equipment
Anyone can skim a surface and tip in a scoop of chlorine. The pools that stay clear all summer are the ones where someone measures the water properly, sets the dosing to the real bather load, and reads the plant room every visit. The cheap contract that costs less per month is usually the one that leaves the filter half-blocked and the pump running long to compensate, so you pay the difference on the electricity bill and again when the equipment fails early.
We send the same technician to your pool where we can, so they know its normal: how long the filter should run, what the water usually reads, what the pump sounds like when it is happy. A pool that is drifting tells you early if someone is paying attention, and says nothing to a rotating crew that has never seen it before.
Salt, chlorine and Dubai water
Most villa pools here run on either liquid chlorine or a salt chlorinator, and both need managing in this climate. Salt cells scale up in hard water and stop producing chlorine long before the owner notices; chlorine pools burn off fast in direct sun without enough stabiliser. Either way the failure looks the same from the kitchen window (the water goes dull, then cloudy) and either way the fix is chemistry and a plant-room check, not a bigger dose of whatever is to hand.
Hard water is the other constant. It leaves scale at the waterline and inside the pipework and the cell, so part of a good maintenance plan is keeping the balance right enough that scale never gets a hold, rather than acid-washing it off twice a year.
Cleaning while you are away
A lot of the pools we look after belong to people who are at work all week or out of the country for stretches of it, which is exactly when a pool goes wrong unwatched. The plan does not depend on you being there. The technician comes on the agreed day, the water is logged, and if something needs your decision (a part replaced, a light gone, a stain that needs treating) you get a photo and a plain explanation, not a surprise when you are back.
It is also why we would rather have a schedule than a call-out. Regular servicing can identify problems earlier and reduce avoidable call-outs; a pool people remember only when it turns green is one you fix expensively and then start over.
When maintenance finds something bigger
Sometimes the visit turns up a real fault: the pool is losing water beyond evaporation, the shell has a crack, the plant room is undersized or the previous installer cut a corner that is now costing you. Because we also repair and renovate pools, we can diagnose it properly rather than guess, and quote the fix honestly against what the pool needs. There is never any pressure to take it: the maintenance keeps the pool running either way, and you decide what to do with what we find.
Questions we get asked
How often should a pool be serviced in Dubai?
For most villa pools, weekly through the hot months and fortnightly through winter. The heat drives algae and burns off chlorine fast, so a longer gap in summer is where green water starts. We agree the rhythm after seeing the pool, the planting around it and how much it is used.
What does a pool maintenance visit include?
Water testing and balancing (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, stabiliser, salt), filter cleaning or backwash, brushing and vacuuming, skimming, emptying the baskets, and a plant-room check of the pump, flow, pressure and dosing. You get a logged reading each visit.
Do you maintain pools you did not build?
Most of the pools we service, we did not build. It makes no difference to the visit: what matters is the state of the water, the filter and the plant room, and we read those the same way whoever installed it.
Why does my pool keep turning green or cloudy?
Almost always chemistry and circulation, not bad luck. Not enough stabiliser so chlorine burns off in the sun, a filter that is blocked or past its life, or a pump not running long enough for the water volume. A proper visit measures all three rather than just adding chlorine.
Why has my pool running cost gone up?
Usually a pump that is oversized or running longer than the turnover needs, often with a filter well past its life so it works harder for less flow. A plant-room check finds it, and correcting it normally pays for itself on the electricity bill.
Can you service the garden and the pool together?
Yes, and it keeps a cleaner pool. Leaf drop, irrigation over-spray and fertiliser run-off all end up in the water, so one team looking after both the planting and the pool catches what a pool-only visit leaves in.
What does pool maintenance cost?
It is quoted after we have seen the pool, because a small skimmer pool and a large overflow with a big plant room are not the same job. Maintenance is a separate, recurring service from our design-and-build work and is priced on its own.
Do you do a one-off clean or green-to-clean recovery?
Yes. We recover a neglected or green pool and can then put it on a plan so it does not get back there. The recovery is quoted for the state the pool is in; the ongoing plan is the cheaper place to be.

What it costs
Real rates from our own priced jobs, and what actually moves the number: the Dubai cost guide, and swimming pool costs.
When you compare quotes, compare what they include, not just the number. The cheapest price on a page is usually the one that leaves out the ground, the prep or the parts you never see, and that is where a job fails.
